Sfakia region

Chora Sfakion. Where the mountains merge with the sea Capital of the municipality of Sfakion. One of the most historic municipalities in Greece. It is located in the southwest of the island of Crete. A wild but hospitable place, pure and traditional, perhaps the wildest and most natural part of Crete. Today is a place to get away from mass tourism, surrounded by the southern Cretan Sea and people, whose hospitality is legendary. Chora Sfakion and the whole province of Sfakion, is a very special part of Crete, away from the mass tourism of the north coast. It is located in the southern Cretan Sea in the southwestern part of the island and is formed by the mountain range called "White Mountains" or madara, with the highest peak Pachnes at an altitude of 2454 meters, the second highest mountain in Crete. The area is famous for its independent spirit as it was the center of resistance against the Venetians and the Turks.

illigas

Ilingas beach is located at the exit of Ilingas gorge, 2 km west of Chora Sfakion, a 20-minute walk from the road to Anopoli. What characterizes the beach of Iliga are the crystal clear turquoise waters, the deep sea, the fine and thick pebbles and the caves of the rocky shore. There is a small tavern on the beach if you want to drink water, coffee, soft drinks and even food.

Sweet water beach

Sweet water beach ( glika nera ) is located 75km south of Chania and 4km west of Chora Sfakion. It is one of the most beautiful beaches of southern Crete, which is hidden among the Sfakia massifs. Glika Nera got its name from the drinking water springs that flow in various parts of the beach. There is pebble on the beach and the waters are clear and crystal clear, though quite cold due to the fountains flowing into the sea.

Loutro

Loutro is a small fishing village about 71 kilometers south of Chania, at the end of Cape Mouri. Here was the location of the ancient city of Phoenix and the port of ancient Anopolis. Marmara

Marmara or Dialiskari is a small beach with pebbles and blue waters formed at the exit of the imposing Aradena Gorge in the Sfakia region. It is located 85km south of Chania and 5km west of Loutro, on the section of the European E4 Trail that connects Agia Roumeli with Loutro. It is the beach left by those who cross the Aradena Gorge.

Agia Roumeli

Agia Roumeli is a small secluded village, located 56km south of Chania, in a large bay formed at the exit of the Grand Samaria Gorge. The village is built on the site of ancient Tarras, a small but powerful city that flourished during the Roman period. It is believed that the Romans had built here a temple dedicated to the goddess protector of the Romanian flock. Agia Roumeli is a peaceful place, amidst the wild mountainous landscape of the White Mountains. The most common way to get here is either through the Samaria Gorge, or by boat from Chora Sfakion, Loutro, Paleochora and Sougia.
